Asphalt Fumes at Asphalt Terminals, Foundries, Roofing Plants, and Refineries

asphalt fume emissionsAPC has addressed asphalt fume emissions in a variety of industrial settings including asphalt terminals, pipe foundries, roofing plants, and oil refineries. Pollutants controlled at such sites have included odors, fine white oil mist, visible emissions/opacity, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter, and other sulfuric and organic compounds.

At asphalt terminals and oil refineries that have asphalt products, asphalt fumes can be emitted from asphalt storage tanks and from tank truck and railcar loading and unloading activities. APC has successfully addressed emissions from such emission sources at many facilities. APC uses its unique UHF® Filter unit for removal of oil mist/condensed fumes, particulate matter, and visible emissions/opacity. The UHF® Filter unit is ideal for the sticky, oily condensed fumes emitted from these sources, not having any trouble with plugging up or blinding off. If the system is required for control of odors, H2S, VOCs, and/or other sulfuric and organic compounds, APC typically adds after the UHF® Filter unit a carbon vessel that contains one or two types of activated carbon media depending on which contaminants need to be removed. The UHF® Filter unit is an indispensable pre-filter upstream of the carbon bed to prevent the carbon media from getting coated by the condensed fumes and requiring frequent media bed replacement. More information on APCs activated carbon units is found by clicking on Activated Carbon Systems. APC has also designed hoods for effective fume capture from these sources.

At pipe foundries and roofing plants, product materials are typically submerged in hot asphalt during the production process. These plants have emissions from these coating operations and also can have tank vent emissions and other process emissions that contain asphalt or similar types of condensed fumes/fine white oil mist.  Like at asphalt terminals and oil refineries with asphalt products, APC uses its unique UHF® Filter unit for removal of oil mist/condensed fumes, particulate matter, and visible emissions/opacity. The UHF® Filter unit is unique and ideal for handling the sticky, oily condensed fumes emitted from these sources as mentioned above. If the system is required for control of odors, H2S, VOCs, and/or other sulfuric and organic compounds, APC can add after the UHF® Filter unit a carbon vessel that contains one or two types of activated carbon media depending on which contaminants need to be removed, or in some cases an oxidizer can be added. In either case — activated carbon or oxidizer — the UHF® Filter unit is a unique and indispensable per-filter upstream of the carbon bed or oxidizer prevent the operational and performance problems caused by the condensed asphalt fumes. More information on APCs activated carbon units is found by clicking on Activated Carbon Systems. APC has designed enclosures and hoods for effective fume capture from the emission sources at pipe foundries and roofing plants.
